Team EcoRangers Among Global Finalists in NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024
Bangladesh’s Team EcoRangers from Mymensingh Division has secured a spot among the top 40 global finalists in the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024, competing against 15,444 teams from 163 countries. The Bangladesh chapter of this prestigious competition was organized for the 11th time by the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS).
Additionally, two other Bangladeshi teams—Team Urban Autopians and Team GeoWizards—received recognition in the "Global Honorable Mention" category, ranking among the top 19 teams in this segment.
This year’s challenge, the largest in its history, saw participation in 30 categories, encompassing individuals of varying ages, backgrounds, interests, and skills from across 163 countries. NASA scientists will review and finalize the winning projects in January 2025. Bangladesh, a four-time world champion in this competition, is now aiming for its fifth global triumph.
Speaking about this achievement, BASIS President M. Rashidul Hasan remarked, “The success of our teams at the NASA Space Apps Challenge reflects the tremendous potential and innovation within Bangladesh’s IT sector. It demonstrates that with proper guidance, relentless effort, and ingenuity, our youth can excel on any global platform. I congratulate the teams and extend my gratitude to the advisors, mentors, judges, and local leads associated with the challenge. We hope to proudly raise Bangladesh’s flag on the global stage once again.”
NASA’s Space Apps Challenge brings together talented technologists, scientists, designers, artists, educators, and entrepreneurs from around the world to devise innovative solutions to pressing global challenges. As part of this initiative, the Bangladesh chapter was held in October across nine cities: Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Cumilla.
This global recognition underscores the growing influence of Bangladesh’s youth in the field of technological innovation.
